What is Barter?

As a kid, you may have traded your snack at school with one of your friends.  Maybe you were tired of the same old cookies your mom packed in your lunch box or maybe your friend's potato chips made her too thirsty.  Regardless of the reason, both of you did what any shrewd kids would do and swapped your snacks!  Fast forward a few years and you still are that same shrewd individual.  Rather than buy yourself that new boat you've always wanted, you decide that you want to trade one of your cars that you are not using for it.  But where will you find a person who needs a car and wants to get rid of their boat?  This is where Barter Switch comes in!  You can place a free Barter Ad to let others know that you have a car to give for their boat!  You can also search Barter Switch to find out if someone with a cool boat to give is looking for a car!

In fact, there are several different ways to search Barter Switch in order to maximize your trading potential.  In the case above, you can search Barter Switch for an exact match through what is known as an "Advanced Barter Search."  In this case, you are entering an item you need as well as an item you would like to give for that need.  If anyone in our database is looking for a car and wants to give a boat, this search will find them.  Let's say however, that you want to see ALL of the things people are offering for your car.  Maybe instead of a boat, you would also take a snow mobile.  In this case you would simply perform a "Simple Barter Search" in which you check off the " I Will Give in a Barter Trade" button and enter your "car" in the text box.  A list of all of the people who need your car will appear with all of the things they would be willing to give you!  Pretty cool huh?  In addition, you can also perform a "Simple Barter Search" in which you can view a list of all of the things people would be willing to accept for their boat!  Maybe you have a motorcycle you wouldn't mind giving to someone who is looking for one in exchange for their boat!  The possibilities are endless!  If these searches didn't help you find barter partners, you can also do a "Barter Search By Location" to see if people near by you are into bartering!

Searching:

You may search Barter Switch for free, however, you will not have access to the e-mail address, website, and descriptive information of the members of your search results until you open a Barter Swtich account yourself.

Opening an Account:

It is currently free to open an account.  Opening an account not only gives you full access to the information in our database, it also allows you to list items that you would like to barter (i.e trade or swap) so that other searchers can locate you.  Once you have become a member by opening your account, each ad you place is free.  To open up an account and become a member of Barter Switch, click the Join Barter Switch link on the barterswitch.com homepage.

  Adding Items You Wish To Barter, Trade, or Swap:

Once you become a member, you can add the items you are looking to give as well as receive to the Barterswitch.com database so that other members can locate you when they search Barterswitch.com.  Simply click on Place a Barter Ad to add your items.

You must specify both an item that you would like to give and an item that you would like to receive in return for that item.  You may also include a picture of your item if you have a website address where that picture is stored (example:  www.your_site.com/your_picture.gif).  In addition, you can also enter your website address and a description of what you want or what you have to give.  Please note that the words you use in your descriptive titles will be the keywords that others use to search for your items.  See illustration below of our ad placement form.

How To Use The Barterswitch.com Search Form:

The Barterswitch.com search form is located at the top of selected pages of Barterswitch.com  There are 4 ways to use this search tool.

1.)      Simple Barter Search for an Item You Need:  Let's say you need a Buffalo Nickel to complete your coin collection.  You want to find all members of Barterswitch.com who are offering a Buffalo nickel in trade because you want to see a list of who they are and what their needs are.  After all, if you have something that one of these traders would like, you can swap it for your nickel!  To do this, simply check off the "Need" radio button while entering “Buffalo Nickel” in the text box to the right of these words.  A list of all of the items that are being requested for your Buffalo Nickel will appear after you press the "Search" button!  See illustration below:

2.)      Simple Barter Search for an Item You Would Like to Give:  Let's now say that instead of needing a Buffalo Nickel, you have a Buffalo Nickel.  You want to find all members of Barterswitch.com who want your nickel because you want to see what they are willing to give for it.  To do this, simply check off the "Will Give in a Barter Trade" radio button while entering “Buffalo Nickel” in the text box to the right of these words.  A list of all of the items that are being offered for your Buffalo Nickel will appear!  See illustration below:

3.)      Advanced Barter Search:  You have an Old Pickup Truck.  You want to trade it for a Snow Mobile.  By typing “Snow Mobile” in the “Enter an Item You Need” text box and “Old Pickup Truck” in the box next to the words “and an Item You'll Give For It," Barterswitch.com will give you a list of all members who are looking to give a snow mobile in return for your old pickup truck.  See illustration below:

4.)      Barter Search By Location:  You can also view the items needed and being offered by location.  Let's say you want a list of all people in New York City who are looking to barter.  Simply enter "New York, NY" in the "Enter the City and State You Would Like To Barter In" text box and press search to see a list of the needs and offers of all people who are bartering in New York City.  See illustration below:

Comments:

In the event you would like to comment on another member of Barterswitch.com, you can voice your comment by clicking on the "comments" link that appears at the bottom of all Barterswitch.com pages after you have logged in.  In the event another member does not make good on their offer to trade items with you (i.e., you have sent them your item and they have not sent you their item) you can warn other members about this members history by filling out a comment form.  This comment will appear under the link "My Trading History" under the "description" link when that members items are returned to another member in a search result.  You can also offer positive feedback about another member as well.  Please note that Barterswitch.com is not responsible for the monitoring of such comments or removal of such members who have had negative comments against them.  However, Barterswitch.com will reserve the right to revoke a persons membership for any reason at any time.
